Refuge Place

Liberty For Youth celebrates the successes of the youth attending our programs. But for some youth, they do not have a safe place to live.  Everyday we see their struggle of trying to grow while their basic needs of shelter, acceptance and care are not being met. To help meet their needs we are fundraising so we can open what we call
Refuge Place.

Opening in Hamilton, Ontario, Refuge Place will begin as a four bed residential home. It will give destitute youth the opportunity to live in a home that’s free from criticism, hunger, abuse, and poor influences. These youth will experience being accepted, guided, and loved. Many for the first time will also understand the true blessing of stability.

We are currently seeking property for the development of Refuge Place. So far, we have raised $32,500 and are seeking sponsors, partners or investors for the remaining $50,000 towards a down payment.

The Vision of Refuge Place

RESPECT: Respect is an important trait that will be developed and encouraged at
Refuge Place. Our residents will not only learn to respect those in authority, but most importantly, to respect themselves through positive choices.

ESTEEM: The human soul is much like the tire of a car; if deflated it will not go very far. It is our passion at Liberty for Youth to build the esteem of our clients. We work incredibly hard to boost assertiveness, drive, and passion in our youth.

FAMILY: The main goal of Refuge Place is to provide youth with a change of environment that is critical to their long term success. Here, they’ll be separated from negative peers, gang associates, and drug dealers which are critical for the development of ethics and morals during their stay. Once a graduate of Refuge Place, our youth will return to society as independent, responsible, and caring citizens.

UNDERSTANDING: Each of our clients comes from a unique situation that needs to be understood. Acceptance and understanding are the foundations for long standing success.

GRACE: Refuge Place gathers its inspiration from Christian principles and teachings. Program statistics show that youth who connect with a local church or ministry have quadrupled their likelihood of success. With this in mind, Refuge Place will provide the opportunity to further the spirituality of our youth. Similar to the ministry of Christ, Refuge Place is open to those of differing creed, race, or religion. No one should be exempted from the love of Christ or from the ability to succeed.

EDUCATION: Every resident will leave with a planned path to attend post-secondary education. This can include diploma, degree or apprenticeship study.

PURPOSE: At Refuge Place our youth will have the chance to develop into the young men that they were meant to be. Our residents will explore their purpose and passion for life and how it can positively impact their community and the world.

LEADERSHIP: At Liberty for Youth we believe that leaders are made not born. Our clients who were once “followers” of poor choices are given the opportunity to lead in our many life skill activities and programs.

ACCOUNTABILITY: With no accountability it is easy to understand why many of our youth are led down the wrong path. Liberty for Youth encourages our clients to take accountability for their actions while showing compassion for those around them.

CHANGE: Change is the ultimate goal of Liberty for Youth. It is our objective to provide the season of change that is so desperately needed. We change despair to hope, failure to success, and the feeling of worthlessness to value. As Christ has changed hearts, so we strive to change the hearts of our clients.

EMPLOYMENT: While at Refuge Place youth will learn the value of money, budgeting, and saving. They will learn the importance of appreciating and valuing an “honest day’s work”.
